Artist's Comments

Ugh. I've been working on this since about this time yesterday. Especially when I was sleeping. I work harder when I'm asleep.

So uh... it probably took more than 10 hours to finish (gasp!). Tchsk. The sketch alone probably took around three or four hours because I kept having to redraw bits and I STILL think I did a poor job of making that bird look uh... perspectively good. Particularly that wing that's closest to "the camera".

It's surprising that I did anything at all since I've been so horribly UNmotivated lately, but I was playing [a game that I won't mention because the last time I mentioned a game in an artist's comment thing, people commented on how great they thought the game was instead of the art. o_O] last night and uh... the dungeon I was in was all sparkly and turquoise and uh... it inspired ME to draw something all sparkly an turquoise. And orange just for contrast or something.

Uh... I also used a TEXTURE OVERLAY on the bird. It was a texture I got from one of `hibbary's paper texture things somewhere in her gallery... And uh... I thought I was going to say more about this, but I got distracted for a moment and now I can't remember what I have and haven't said. o_O

The contrast between the warm and cool colors is really good. :)

I also like the reflected light, both on the bird and on the water. It brings the piece together nicely. The water is drawn well, too.

As for crits, I think the birds wings seem a bit short. This is mainly seen on the bird's left wing, actually. The perspective on the right wing rather avoids this.
But, the left wing seems very short for it's width.

Also, I think the shading on the feet could use a bit more contrast. It's especially difficult to see the detail on the right foot.

This is simply stunning. Truely, utterly stunning.

The only thing I'd do is perhaps put a 'glow' of orangish light, very very faint, just to make the bird look more part of the picture, as at the moment it looks slightly cut-out-and-stuck on in places, as there are some sharp edges.

Alternatively you could just soften those sharp edges - (for example on the quills near the head)

Oh gosh... I really can't think of anything to crit about this.
It's just amazing :wow:
Your art has come so far so fast! I really admire you. ♥
I really love the background, and the bird is awesome. I think it looks great and I don't see any problem with the perspective.

Incredible.
Keep it up!

Well hurrah and thanks a bunch or something! It means a lot to me to be admired...! It's also hard for me to notice the improvements I make and often feel like I haven't got much further or something, so uh... I'm also really glad to hear that it seems I've improved a lot! So yes! Thank you!

Thank you! I was thinking that it might end up looking a bit cut-and-pasted on... I think originally, I wanted to make the image get a bit greener as it got closer to the bird or something so the orange might blend in a bit better with the rest of the image, but ended up not doing that because I didn't want to ruin the blue that I liked so much or something...! Oh well, I'll just keep it in mind for next time!

I love the contrast between the gold and blue. :) Gorgeous detail and that waterfall is amazing!
