I seem to encounter an annoying number of people who only submit pictures they LIKE that they didn't actually create themselves and want to show other people. They, of course, rarely mention this in any of their artist's comments, and end up getting comments like, "wow! That's amazing!" and saying things like "thanks" in response, unaware that the person thinks they drew the thing themselves, though does end up responding to comments asking if the person drew it themselves with, "no, I only like it and want to show people!"
Some of these people submit these things as PRINTS though?! Agh...! I think deviantART might need to make it more obvious that you're only supposed to submit your OWN artwork, since it says nothing about that on the front page or the submission page or anything... (Though I wonder if they'd have to specify that you have to have actually DRAWN the image yourself since, if they just said "submit your own artwork", people might sillily think that a piece of artwork is "theirs" just because they have it saved on their computer in the same way they would think a piece of artwork is "theirs" if they had a print of it or something...)
Tsk, I've seen some really stupid situations relating to that too though... Like one person submitting some official image of SONIC from some game thing and then some other person who submitted the same image before them complains at them for submitting it because "it's MY image! I submitted it first, so it's MINE!"
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know."
"It's okay, as long as you know it's mine."
o_O
People like that make me wonder how many people actually have creative hobbies or even realise that that artwork was drawn by *someone* who put time and effort into what they drew and instead think of the art they see as just some soulless product from some company or something? I often assume people DO have creative hobbies, but I also somehow end up forgetting that there's a whole world of people outside deviantART that I completely forget about because they uh... aren't the sorts of people who would be on deviantART or even spend much time at all on the internet! Which uh... shows how much time I spend on the internet. o_O
I wonder how many of those people would say things like uh... "you spent a whole HOUR on a drawing?! You have no life!"
I wonder that because of the story behind
this piece of artwork. Tsk! =_=
And uh... yes. I'm ranting about things because I just encountered YET ANOTHER person who submits artwork that isn't theirs because they just want to show it to people when they can do that by either adding the image to their favourites or linking to it in a journal entry or something.
And uh... I'll also mention that I asked the doctor about my elbow thing and she said it might be golfer's elbow or tennis elbow and that it's probably caused by using it too much, so uh... I'm just mentioning that in case anyone is curious because of my last journal entry!

On a -slightly- related note, I saw someone yesterday using my drawings to make their own drawings, I'm not sure if they liked my work or are making fun of me. D:
Argh! How does someone who is using a wonderful talent to create something have no life? x__x I personally think it is wonderful when people have hobbies they are passionate about (creative or otherwise) and are able to make something of it that most others cannot.
I have received a lot of frustrating comments about my work from real life friends. Despite it taking me about 15 hours per picture to do, apparently I don't do any of the work because I use a computer. :\ Someone thought my flying black dog picture was a photo manipulation and that I didn't do it. x__x
Yes, it bothers me alot when the ignorance of people causes artists harm.
also, posting screenshots from games are considered, own creation? because theres a lot in D.A lately(for example type brawl screenshot)

You gotta know the rules before you can effectively break them.
Anyway, uh...! People SHOULD look around a bit to see how the community works before joining, or listen if other people complain about them submitting artwork that doesn't belong to them. (I've seen some "go away, you're annoying" responses to comments like that, but complainy comments tend to end up being uh... those sorts of "you're an art thief!! Enjoy your ban!!" types of comments or something anyway. o_O)
And I find it so nerve-wracking when people base artwork off MY art all the... one time that's happened (that I'm aware of, anyway). It was a scary situation because I didn't know if they were going to be friendly or not and uh... I hope whoever was using YOUR drawings WAS just doing it because they liked your work! Either way, it scares me when I see things of mine being used by other people because I'm afraid of actually approaching the person about it...! o_O
And I also think it's wonderful when people have some sort of hobby they spend time on and accomplish things because of and uh... yes! To me, that seems like having more of a life than just not having anything like that at all or something. And I've read journal entries and things by people who have complained about receiving "digital art isn't real art because the computer does it for you!" comments and always get frustrated about that since it still takes hours to do and requires all the skills necessary to create traditional art! I mean, you can't just TELL the computer to draw a picture of what you want to make a picture of and make it fill in all the right colours and shade it properly and so on. o_O
